About Us
Magna Energy Storage a.s.
The company Magna Energy Storage a.s. was established in May, 2017 with the aim of building a new manufacturing plant for the production of high-capacity batteries HE3DA® in the František Industrial Zone, Horní Suchá, Czech Republic with planned production launch in 2020
It is a purely Czech joint-stock company without the participation of foreign capital. The company's organization is traditional, dualistic (the Board of Directors as a statutory body and the Supervisory Board as a supervisory body).
HE3DA company has provided Magna Energy Storage a.s. rights to use their patents. Based on these patents, Magna Energy Storage a.s. is going to produce revolutionary HE3DA® 3D batteries, developed by Czech scientist and inventor Dr. Jan Procházka, which are suitable for many applications, especially energy storage.
The first fully automated pilot production line of HE3DA® 3D batteries with a production capacity of 10 MWh per year was put into operation in December 2016 in Prague - Letňany. Production technology has been tested and production processes have been set up. The lessons learned from the development of this line and the production processes used will be applied to the 1.2 GWh production technology per year. The entire manufacturing process will be maximally automated and the entire plant will operate in a three-shift operation of approximately 100 employees.
Production process and technological know-how will be provided by Exelsior Engineering a.s., which has many years of experience in the development and supply of lines for complex technological processes such as plastics recycling, plastic regranulation, filling lines, etc.
The Magna Energy Storage Project
The Magna Energy Storage (M.E.S.) project responds to increased global demand for Li-ion batteries. This increased demand is due to a significant reduction of price for photovoltaic panels needed for the construction of photovoltaic power plants as well as to the fact that, in general, there is also a widespread deviation from traditional power generation (such as nuclear or fossil fuel production) replacement of electricity from renewable energy sources (such as sun and wind).
These new energy sources, however, place increased demands on the distribution network, which is often exposed to large fluctuations. It is causing blackouts on the transmission network. The absence of a battery that allows economical storage of energy on a large scale is currently a brake on the further development of energy and the production of renewable energy.
HE3DA® technology provides a solution to this problem. The aim of the M.E.S project is to build a new manufacturing plant for the production of high-capacity HE3DA® batteries.
Magna Energy Storage a.s. will build the first production plant in the František Industrial Zone, Horní Suchá, Czech Republic with a capacity of 1.2 GWh per year, and is ready to further expand its production.
The key partners are EXELSIOR ENGINEERING a.s. that will provide Magna Energy Storage a.s. the necessary technological know-how, and HE3DA s.r.o., a patent owner, dealing exclusively with research and development in technology and its application to production and practice.
Technology
The new production plant will be equipped with production technology with an annual production capacity of 1200 MWh. Production technologies will be supplied by a company EXELSIOR ENGINEERING a.s.
This production technology will be located in a separate production hall with a connection to the necessary infrastructure, such as dry air production, production of active materials, and baking of ceramic separators.
Part of the building will be the preparation of active materials based on graphite nanoparticles - for the Anode and NMC (Lithium Nickel Manganite Cobalt) – for Cathode (other components of the material are production secrets).
The technological equipment needed to manufacture the active materials will be installed in separate parts of the plant. The necessary know-how will be supplied and leased by HE3DA s.r.o. This production is the elementary key to the correct setting and operation of the HE3DA® battery. The establishment is important to ensure the independence of the manufacturing plant for potential suppliers of active materials, while at the same time enabling it to better protect the know-how. The preparation of nanomaterials and its process will be controlled and tested by the quality control department.
Part of the preparation and control of nanomaterials will be our own laboratory for rapid tests and analyzes of these materials. In this laboratory, active materials will be tested and tested prior to application to their own batteries.
Production technologies with a capacity of 1.2 GWh per year will be fully flexible to produce batteries with different capacities ranging from 0.5 KWh to 50 kWh, with a voltage of 4.1 V while maintaining an annual production capacity of 1200 MWh.
Lower capacity batteries will primarily be designed for use in households and small to medium-sized industries.
Larger capacity batteries will primarily be designed for large-scale energy storage, network (grid) stabilization and frequency control over the network. The test production will start in mid-2019.
